Kinderbijslag
The Kinderbijslag is an amount paid every quarter (so 4 times a year) to every family in the Netherlands with a child under 18. This payment is not based on income.
As at May 2024: Your child benefit will be €279.49 to €399.27 per quarter depending on their age. Child benefit is always paid after the end of the quarter concerned.

Kindergebondenbudget
This is a secondary payment that you may be entitled to. You will ONLY be eligible to receive this if you are already receiving the payment above.
If you have two or more children, some mediators/lawyers will advise to register one (or more) children at each parents address.
Take note here – as soon as a child turns 18, you will no longer get EITHER of these benefits.
Also take note that the belastingdienst will NOT split the KGB payment between co-parents, they will only pay it to the parent getting the kinderbijslag.
Unlike the kinderbijslag, the kindergebondenbudget amount is income-related.

The final kindergebondenbudget will be calculated when you submit a tax return, and you will have to either pay back an amount if you have underestimated your income, or will receive a payment if you earned less than estimated.
